Comments submitted by newly registered users will be moderated until such time as I’m confident that the blog “house rules” are understood.

These are fairly flexible and really just an extension of conventional netiquette:-

1. Please try to keep your comment “on topic” - i.e., relevant to the post being commented upon
2. If your comment contains links to other sites that’s fine, providing its relevant to the topic. Nor do I mind you linking to your own site in your comment, but I’ll probably delete posts that contain links simply promoting/advertising another site without contributing significantly to the content here. However, bear in mind that if your comment includes more than two links it’ll be filtered out automatically by my spam-catcher anyway.
3. I recognise that not everyone will agree with my point of view. That’s fine, and simply expressing your disagreement or arguing an alternative viewpoint (even quite forcefully) won’t get your comment deleted. Freedom of expression and all that. However…
4. Unwarranted personal insults will!
5. Also remember that whilst I don’t object to moderately strong language (you need only see some of my own previous posts!), really foul language is guaranteed to get your comment deleted. Please remember that kids and folk of “refined sensibilities” can also access this site, so make appropriate allowance.
6. Should I need to edit your comment for any reason (such as replacing really bad language with asterisks or whatever - which could occur if for example a comment merits retaining but you got a bit carried away) then I’ll include a note in the post indicating such.
7. Returning to the subject of links: comments that contain links to porno sites will be deleted without a second thought, as will comments that promote racial hatred, homophobia, and all the other usual “no-no’s”.

Generally speaking I’m fully in favour of freedom of expression, but such freedom carries with it certain responsibilities - as do all social interactions. Please remember that. And cos this is my blog I’m the sole arbiter here of what’s acceptable and what isn’t
