SOCPA - Brian Haw’s full display rises like a pheonix

UK Indymedia - SOCPA - brian haw’s full display rises like a pheonix

next monday at horseferry road, judge purdy hands down his decision whether brian haw has a case to answer for alleged breach of socpa conditions that led to a night-time police raid by 78 officers in may 2006 cutting his display from more than forty metres down to a mere three. in the meantime, artist mark wallinger has been busy recreating the whole display and his exhibition entitled ’state britain’ opened this morning at tate britain, on the very edge of the socpa zone.

The original Indymedia post includes some excellent photos of the exhibition and some fascinating background information that’s yet another demonstration of the bias of the mainstream media.
The exhibition is running till August this year and entry’s free!

“Policing by Consent”

Sack Parliament

.

As hinted at in my last post, I managed to get down to London yesterday (Monday) for the “Sack Parliament” protest in Parliament Square.

As seems to be the norm nowadays there was a huge police presence, far outnumbering the protesters, so we didn’t actually manage, quite, to achieve the stated objective.

Nevertheless, took a load of pics and had a couple of “interesting” exchanges with the cops, which subsequently prompted me to reflect on certain matters. So I’ve posted a rant (with the same title as this) to the home page. (I’ll add a comment to this with relevant permalink when it gets to be archived.)

Thing I can’t help observing is this - given the nature of the cause, why did so few attend the event? Where the hell were all the antiwar types, the peace campaigners, the antinuclear lot - in fact, all the protesters and activists that have serious issues with the current government (which means pretty much all of them basically). There should have been thousands, if not tens of thousands there. Very disappointing.

That aside, check out the Sack Parliament website.

This looks like it might be fun

Paying my customary visit to Indymedia, spotted this item. Think I’ll toddle along, cos clearly its gonna be a case of “the more the merrier”.
