As we expected they jumped on the fact that Ed Brown initially waited for the Alex Jones show to comeback from break before beginning the conference, stating “Ed Brown held a phone conversation simultaneously”. We will not accept any tomfoolery by any criminal element, be it federal, state or local,” said Ed Brown in a press conference from the stoop of his concrete-clad home in Plainfield, N.H. “We either walk out of here free or we die.”

Brown and his wife, Elaine, were sentenced in absentia in April to serve 63 months in prison for failing to pay more than $1 million in income tax.

The couple, however, insists that there is no law that requires citizens to pay income tax.

“There is no law. We looked and looked,” Brown told the press.

Brown and his supporters, including Randy Weaver, leader of the 1992 standoff with ATF agents at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, told the press that the government has unlawfully tricked people into believing they have to pay income tax, knowing full well that such a law would be unconstitutional.

“We will defend it to the death. This is 1776 all over again. You cannot tax someone’s labor because that is slavery,” Brown said.

Carrying a pistol in his waistband, Brown also insisted that he could not receive a fair trial in a federal court because “the court system falls under freemasonry.”

“There [are] no longer any lawful courts. The Freemasons have taken over our nation. … [Freemasons want] to take over our nation and all nations on the planet,” Brown said.

Weaver, whose son was killed by federal agents and who later received a $100,000 settlement from the government, said he was there to support the Browns.

“I’d rather die on my feet right here than die on my knees under this de facto government,” he said. “Bring it on.”

Despite months of surveillance and reports of agents hiding in the woods of the couple’s 110-acre compound, U.S. marshals said this morning that the Brown’s Plainfield, N.H., home was not surrounded by their officers.

U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier made an effort to starkly contrast the actions of the Marshals with those of the ATF agents who besieged Ruby Ridge in 1992. In addition to Weaver’s son, one federal agent was killed in that incident.

“There is no standoff and the house is not surrounded.” Monier told ABC News.com. “We have no intention of assaulting the house or engaging in a violent confrontation.”

Monier said he believed Weaver would attend the press conference the Browns are hosting this afternoon. He said Weaver and others — some of whom are believed to have brought the couple weapons — have been freely allowed to enter Brown’s property.

“There is no reason to block Weaver. People are free to exercise their First Amendment rights,” Monier said. “We are not setting up roadblocks or surrounding the house.”

In April, Ed and Elaine Brown were sentenced in absentia to 63 months in prison for failing to pay more than $1 million in taxes.

Since failing to appear in court the couple has remained within the concrete-fortified walls of their rural New Hampshire home.

Monier said the Marshals have been communicating with the couple in an effort to get them to turn themselves over the federal authorities without having to resort to the use of force.

“We know they have weapons and we do not want to see this escalate,” he said.

Last week agents cut off the home’s telephone, Internet and power access. Monier said the couple most likely had generators — possibly solar or wind powered — but that eventually the Browns would become uncomfortable enough in their isolation that they would be forced to surrender.

“They probably have generators but those will soon need fuel and need people to fix them. We want to continue to encourage them, and make it uncomfortable enough for them that they’ll give up.”

Brown said he and his wife had enough supplies to wait out the government no matter how long it lasted. He said the couple did not use air conditioning and could chop down trees from firewood.

Last week, Danny Riley a friend of the Browns was arrested near their home by federal agents while walking the couple’s dog.

The Marshals claim they were engaged in routine surveillance of the property, but the Browns believe Riley thwarted a potential raid.

We may think we have it bad over here with ever more repressive (and unnecessary) “anti-terror” legislation, increasing numbers of cctv cameras on our streets, ID cards just around the corner, and the nanny state dictating how we should live our lives in ever more personal areas.

But, true to form, the Americans always have to do things on a grander scale.
So now we have the case of Ed and Elaine Brown, two New Hampshire residents, victims of unbelievably disproportionate State intimidation.
Indeed, “intimidation” is far too weak a word to use.

Amazingly it doesn’t appear that any of the media here in the UK have picked this up, yet its happening now, even as I post this.

I have been following the case of Ed and Elaine Brown for months. They are a couple from New Hampshire in their 60’s. He is a retired exterminator, she is a dentist. They have been protesting the federal income tax system for a decade. I fully understand their protest, since I have read extensively on the subject and feel as they do. The federal income tax is an illegal, unjust tax. The 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was questionably ratified in 1913. There is also a disputable requirement to file tax returns. The tax code also is not clear as to the requirement for individuals to pay such taxes.

The first person I knew about that stood as the Browns do is Irwin Schiff. He has been screwed over by the government quite a bit over income tax disputes. Now the Browns are literally under siege in a Ruby Ridge type scenario.

There are recent reports in the Union Leader and the Concord Monitor. I have also been watching the story on the Brown’s myspace page. Check out their blog activities on the myspace page for their side of things. Also, they have a blog. Here is their web site.

Here is an interesting video made last night by a friend of theirs who was shot at by either SWAT teams or soldiers surrounding the Brown’s property. If it is all true, then the siege has already turned violent with shots being fired, tazering a citizen, abduction of a citizen, and attempting to turn him against the Brown family. Sorry, but I consider this to be tyranny.

Another problem I have is that the Browns are non-violent offenders. They are tax protesters, for crying out loud! They are not murderers, rapists, drug dealers, arms dealers, or any such thing. The government is spending more money to lay siege to this couple’s home and business than they would be getting in revenue if they just paid the alleged tax debt. This is asinine.

I don’t agree with everything that Ed Brown stands for. I realize that the government has said that he and his wife are convicted felons. I realize that he is a tremendous zealot in his views. I sympathize with him quite a bit. I have a serious problem with the income tax system. I believe that the government is corrupt in many respects. They don’t respect personal liberties.

The government is spending much more money to apprehend these people than they would probably be getting in tax revenue.

Another issue that bothers me is that we are told that states can and should do nothing about illegal aliens because it is a federal issue. Here we have federal tax dodgers being swarmed by state law enforcement agencies…but it is supposed to be a federal issue, right? What a double standard.

I find the firing of shots at a Brown family friend and supporter and hitting him with a stun gun inexcusable.

Danny Riley, the man who was shot at and arrested after he discovered U.S. Marshals stalking Ed Brown’s home, has revealed the amazing truth behind how he was threatened with 15 years in jail by the FBI unless he lied to the media to cover-up the fact that yesterday’s events were a planned siege and not merely to serve a warrant as authorities had claimed.

Riley related in a video blog late yesterday how he had unwittingly stumbled across U.S. Marshals preparing to raid the Brown property as he left the house to take Ed Brown’s dog for a walk. Riley was confronted by two men in camouflage who fired two shots at him as he attempted to run away, but was then tackled by 12 other armed Marshals who tasered and handcuffed him.

What happened after was carried in our article this morning, but the whole story exposes how the FBI had planned to orchestrate a violent raid on the Brown’s property, before aborting the siege and attempting to use Riley, under intimidation that he would be jailed or even killed, as a go-between to sell the cover-story to the media that the authorities were merely serving a warrant.

Riley now fears for his life but has shown tremendous courage in coming forward to lift the lid and expose the lies that the New Hampshire police told the media in downplaying yesterday’s events and hiding the fact that they were planning a raid.

Riley tells us that after he was arrested and taken to the Lebanon Police Department, he was told that authorities had been conducting surveillance of the Brown’s home on Wednesday and that they knew the Brown’s owned a 50 caliber rifle because they had observed Riley using it on the Brown’s shooting range, while a squadron of snipers lay in wait should they have been discovered, aiming guns at Riley as he was being watched.

Riley was interrogated by two FBI officials who called themselves Phil and Mark, and was threatened with 15 years imprisonment if he told the media that the FBI were involved in the aborted raid on the Brown’s property.

Riley was then ordered to lie to the media and tell them that during his morning walk, he had not seen armed U.S. Marshals but plain clothed police officers who were merely serving a warrant for the seizure of the Brown’s dental office 10 miles away, and that the officers had simply tackled and not shot at or tasered him after he ran. Riley was told that if he didn’t lie to the media he was facing certain prison time or even death.

In an act of astounding courage, Riley ignored the media as they yelled questions at him and headed straight into the house to tell Ed Brown that the FBI had ordered him to lie.Riley then emerged from the house and told the authorities what they wanted to hear - that he had relayed the cover story to the media. Riley was then dropped off at a bus station and told by authorities that if he returned to the scene he would either be imprisoned or killed.Despite the fact that Riley bravely ignored the threats and did not relay the cover-story, the local media still bought the police’s explanation that they had never planned to raid the house and that, after erecting roadblocks a mile around, evacuating neighbors, cutting the Brown’s phone and power lines and deploying 6 helicopters along with a SWAT team and APC’s, they were merely serving a warrant for an empty property 10 miles away.Danny Riley is risking his life by telling the truth - that New Hampshire police, led by the FBI, had conducted prior surveillance of the property and were in place about to launch a violent siege against Ed and Elaine Brown before Riley’s chance encounter with U.S. Marshals led officials to abort the raid and manufacture a cover-story which they then tried to intimidate Riley into selling to the local media.

This represents open fraud, deceit and extortion on behalf of New Hampshire police as well as the FBI and Danny Riley’s testimony demands immediate attention from national as well as local media in the New Hampshire area.

Question: Why are the mainstream media over here still occupied with rubbish about “Big Brother” and Paris Hilton, yet no mention of this issue that could have profound implications for us all?
